In 1957 five areas, the Towns of Pass-a-Grille, Don CeSar, Belle Vista, St. Petersburg Beach and some of unincorporated Pinellas County, combined and incorporated to become the City of St. Petersburg Beach. Years later in 1994 locals decided they wanted to stand out and avoid confusion with the nearby City of St Petersburg so the citizens voted to reduce the name to St Pete Beach. St Pete Beach is also one of the first beaches in Pinellas County that offered reclaimed water to homeowners for land irrigation.
